Schwarzenegger To Obama: Our Democracy Is Not For Sale

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger - the Hollywood "Terminator" star turned Governor (the "Governator") gave the most memorable speech of the 2008 U.S. Presidential election. With McCain falling further behind before the speech, the election stabilized afterward. However it was not enough for McCain and Obama won the landmark election.

Here are some memorable lines from the Governator:

  • On Obama's huge campaign spending advantage: There will be a backlash against all of this lopsided spending. I think Americans will choose and say, "Our Democracy Is Not For Sale".

  • Ladies and gentlemen, I only play an action hero in my movies, but John McCain is a real action hero.

  • America cannot afford the economic proposals of Senator Obama. I left Europe four decades ago because socialism has killed opportunities there. ... In recent years Europe has realized its mistakes and rolled back its "spread the wealth" policies.

  • Now Senator Obama says he wants to pursue the same "spread the wealth ideas" that Europe had decades ago. ... Senator Obama wants to raise the taxes because of ideology. ... He also wants to raise the social security taxes on some Americans.

  • Explain to me the advantage of raising all those taxes in the middle of a recession.

  • And then we're going to make him [Obama] do some biceps curls to beef up those scrawny little arms. But if he could only do something about putting some meat on his ideas.

  • Senator McCain on the other hand is built like a rock. His character and his views are solid.

  • He has proven what kind of a man he is. We don't have to wonder if he's ready to lead. We don't have to wonder is he ready to be president of the United States. John McCain has served his country longer in a POW camp than his opponent has served in the United State Senate.

  • When John was a POW his Vietnamese captors did not think he would survive and live but he has proven them wrong, and on election day he will prove the media wrong.

Excerpts from the AP article at Yahoo News:

"COLUMBUS, Ohio (AFP) – Muscleman-turned-actor-turned-politician Arnold Schwarzenegger called on Barack Obama to beef up his his policies -- and his body -- at a high-voltage campaign rally for Republican John McCain Friday.

Schwarzenegger, the Hollywood action hero who is now the Republican governor of California, delighted a crowd of several thousand at a McCain campaign event in Ohio by ridiculing both Obama's policies and his slender physique."

"Every year in March I come here to organize the Arnold Classic, which is all about building the body and pumping," Schwarzenegger said.

"That's why I want to invite Senator Obama because he needs to do something about those skinny legs. I'm going to make him do some squats.

"And then we're going to make him do some biceps curls to beef up those scrawny little arms. But if he could only do something about putting some meat on his ideas."

  1. Puppet millionare? Where did all the scorn come from towards the successful? Envy? So you pay too much for health care so you'd rather pay the government too much in taxes so they can provide us crappier care? Get a life. And Arnold worked very hard for what he has. 70HRs a week doesn't mean your working smart, maybe you should have educated yourself and you wouldn't be where you are.

  2. You are just another one of those people who thinks its fair for the government to take what I worked very hard to build and use it to give yourself benefits you didn't earn. I am so sick of this entitlement mentality! it's sick and wrong and not what this country was built on!

  3. I am an Independent... I don't LIKE being EXPECTED to make a certain decision come voting day because of who I hang with... I like to think for MYSELF and get ALL of the FACTS that I can in order to make an INFORMED decision. I have liked and admired John McCain for a long time, but I personally feel like he has, in a sense, "sold his soul to the devil" during this campaign in an effort to win -- I may have voted for him if he had stayed true to who he has been, but I don't know if it's his age or WHAT... but as the oldest elected president, to pick an INEPT partner such as Sarah Palin, who might very well have to step up to president before his term is over, it TOTALLY unbelievable to me... a very BAD decision, made only MORE so every time I hear her speak. I don't think Barack Obama is for 'socialism', per se... I think he is trying to give back HOPE to millions of Americans who have been disillusioned by our previous experience the past several years. I am ALL FOR change at this point... but not the kind of change that McCain has gone through in order to win this... MY vote is for Obama, for HOPE... and for a BIG CHANGE in our society.

  4. Arnold makes me sick talking about Obama's skinny arms and legs. What does that have to do with anything but to try to infer some kind of physical weakness through more smear? Do you also feel that way towards other people that are overweight, or disabled because they cannot 'pump iron' like YOU? For SHAME!! And yes Senator McInsane is built like a ROCK. He has rocks in his head for picking Palin as a running mate! And yes he has proven what "kind of man" he is. He is someone who didn't have the GUTs to stand by his sick wife and deserted her when she needed him most. Just like he has deserted the American people when they needed him most to TELL THE TRUTH and run and honest, above board campaign. And for your endorsement of him, Arnold, you also have failed the American public. OBAMA 08 DONT WAIT VOTE TODAY

  5. YOU SHOULD ALL WAKE UP YOU KNOW THE SAYING IF IT SOUNDS TO GOOD TO BE TRUE THEN DON'T DO IT..
OBAMA ASK YOUR SELF DO WE REALLY KNOW HIM????
THINK CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU PULL THAT VOTER HANDLE....
    DID YOU READ OBAMA'S BOOK?
Below are a few lines from Obama's books; In his words!

From Dreams of My Father: 'I ceased to advertise my mother's race at the age of 12 or 13, when I began to suspect that by doing so I was ingratiating myself to whites.'
From Dreams of My Father : 'I found a solace in nursing a pervasive sense of grievance and animosity against my mother's race.'
From Dreams of My Father: 'There was something about him that made me wary, a little too sure of himself, maybe. And white.'
From Dreams of My Father: 'It remained necessary to prove which side you were on, to show your loyalty to the black masses, to strike out and name names.'
From Dreams of My Father: 'I never emulate white men and brown men whose fates didn't speak to my own. It was into my father's image, the black man, son of Africa , that I'd packed all the attributes I sought in myself , the attributes of Martin and Malcolm, DuBois and Mandela.'

And FINALLY the Most Damming one of ALL of them!!!

From Audacity of Hope: 'I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction.

    WAKE UP AMERICA.....

  6. HOW SAD IT IS WHEN WE FORGET OUR ROOTS, AND WHERE WE COME FROM.....!
HERE IS SOMEONE WHO LEFT HIS COUNTRY IN HIS EARLY 20'S FOR THE PROMISE OF BIG MONEY PAID FOR PHYSICAL APPEARANCE, AND THEN TURNED POLITICIAN, WHILE STILL ENJOYING HIS "ACTION HERO" STATUS. WITH HIS RECENT ANTI-OBAMA SPEECH HE JUST CONFIRMED HIS LACK OF KNOWLWDGE, AND INTEREST ABOUT WHAT HIS "NEW BELOVED COUNTRY CALLED AMERICA" REALLY NEEDS.
OBVIOUSLY HE MAKES "LITTLE MORE" THAN $250,000.00..., AND THEREFORE HE DID NOT HAVE TIME (YET) TO NOTICE THE RISING PRICES OF GAS, MILK, BREAD, COLLEGE TUITION, OR HEALTH INSURANCE PREMIUMS (IF ONE IS LUCKY ENOUGH TO AFFORD ONE).
THE SAD TRUTH IN ARNOLD'S STATEMENT COMES FROM CONFUSING "SOCIALISM" WITH WELL-BEING OF A NATION WHO HAS BE DIVIDED FOR SO LONG NOW, THAT WE NO LONGER CAN AFFORD A CANDIDATE LIKE MCCAIN.
BY THE WAY....HE COMES FROM AUSTRIA, NOT FROM EASTERN OR SOUTHERN EUROPE (!), SO....ARNOLD, WHAT DO YOU REALLY KNOW ABOUT SOCIALISM? WHILE PEOPLE IN EASTERN EUROPE (LIKE IN POLAND, WHRE I COME FROM) STOOD HOURS IN LINE TO BUY MILK, HAD LIMITED ACCESS TO HEALTH CARE, WENT ON STRIKE TO PROTEST TOO LOW WAGES, LOST LOVED ONES IN PUBLIC DEMONSTRATIONS, OR PERSONAL ENCOUNTERS WITH GOVERNMENT FORCES....WHAT WAS ARNOLD DOING AT THAT TIME?....PUMPING IRON...FOR $$$$$...
    VOTE FOR CHANGE!
    VOTE FOR OBAMA!

  8. Being a "patriot" is thinking about your country first, to see how one can help it to prosper and remain strong, not to think only about yourself. No government can force its citizens to become patriots by creating a "patriot act", after 9/11. PATRIOTISM COMES FROM THE HEART, and Barack Obama has a big heart and a brilliant mind!

World history teaches us what happens if worker's wages keep coming down, and food prices keep going up.....

  10. Mar, seriously. If he were Episcopalian saying that he would stand with that group "should the political winds shift in an ugly direction", or if he were instead a female continuously commenting on the differentiation of genders and how that makes him (or in this case "her") proud to be the gender God made them... then I don't imagine it wouldn't be such an uproar to you.

Truth be told, you, and so many other (dare I say "white supremist-like") citizens are afraid of the one thing that our country has always been built upon: the beautiful and unique differences of the world's people who are privileged to live here.

So, if you take a minute to stop focusing on the details that really only highlite your own insecurities regarding your own lack of knowledge about people that differ from you and I, and focus on the actual policies... you might actually make a decision for yourself. (like Debra in an earlier comment).

Ultimately, whether Obama or McCain win, I hope that people like yourself can just learn to turn off that old-age narrow-mindedness that limits our country from progression.

  11. ARNOLD YOU DID NOT LEFT EUROPE BECAUSE OF SOCIALISM; YOU LEFT EUROPE BECAUSE YOU DID NOT HAVE A DEGRE TO GET A JOB, AND BECAUSE EUROPE DOES NOT HAVE A HOLLYWOOD TO PAY YOUR MUSKULES.
I AM FROM EUROPE, AND I USE TI LIKE YOU, BUT AFTER THIS A SEE I WAS WRONG. I THOUGHT YOU ARE SMART MAN, AT LEAST LITLE BIT EDUCATED, YOU ARE A GOVERNER, BUT A SEE YOU ARE ONLY A BODY BUILDER AND NOTHING MORE.
PELASE DO NOT GO TO MUCH IN PUBLIC AND KEEP YOUR JOB, YOUR MUSCULES ARE NOT SO GOOD ANYMORE FOR MAKING MONEY.
YOU SOULD LEARN IN AMERIKA TO VALUE PEOPLE BY OTHER QUALITIS THAN BY MUSCULES.

  12. Joe the Plumber is the perfect representation of what we are facing as a nation should Obama be elected.

A simple man, asking a simple question, revealed what "The One" has in store for us if he is elected.

How dare the insignificant serf question the "Emporer's New Clothes"? So much like the story, followers blindly go along with the swoon, inspite of the reality before them. In a word, frightening.

Removing the news agencies who did not endorse him from his plane shows his blatant and cocky efforts in controlling the media through reward and punishment. Judging by the ratings, or lack there of, the American people have shown their disgust and no longer have confidence in fair and unbiased reporting.

On the experience issue he has NONE, PERIOD. "The One" could NEVER qualify for security clearance in ANY OTHER Gov't position because of his affiliations. Not suspected, but proven relationships.

All of the candidates have provided in depth medical records while Obama sends a one page note from his doctor, with NO INFORMATION AT ALL. Why is this acceptable? Don't we have a right to know more about the health of a man who runs for President? It seems NOT...

Obama has used the racism issue brilliantly to his advantage. We dare not question anything related to this candidate or be viewed as a racist. How ironic that the very questions being asked are questions asked of ALL candidates in history, save this one. He for some reason is the exception.

What is most disturbing to me in this election are all of these many unanswered questions and the protective agenda on the part of the media. There is BIG MONEY behind this election effort and the sources are so cleverly hidden. One has to question WHO is really greasing the machine...donations from common folk? I think NOT.

This election is "for sale " and I'm not buying. In the end I think the majority of voters, in the privacy of their voting booths will finally face the reality that the Emporer is BUCK NAKED and has no substance...

    VOTE McCain-Palin 2008!

For you information Obama had my vote until I really started to listen to what he really had to offer. People like yourself hear the word change and that's all you foucus on I don't care what race he is he is NOT getting my vote because of his policies so people like your self high and mighty on a change that you think is comming good for you its your right to do that but I have to agree with Evangeline statement above.

    MY VOTE IS FOR McMcain/Pailin

  16. Good to know. I didn't know that "McMcain" was a ballot option for the presidency.

    What are his policies? ;)

It's your right too, and I don't fault you for your views. I just hope, like you said yourself, that you are voting according to the policy and not according to the stereotype.

    Happy voting!
